A Softer World is so fucking good this week
I hope that you are a disaster. I’m sorry, but I do. I hope
that you are thunder and lightning. I hope you are a forest
fire, I hope you kill the dead wood and burn off the
rotting leaves. With the canopy gone, the sun can get in.
You need new growth.
I hope you’re terrible and broken and perfect.
Dominic Lawson on our ‘listening’ Prime Minister;
This was especially true in respect of the invasion of Iraq. By talking endlessly about “listening to the British people” Brown, I suspect, wants to persuade those who opposed that military campaign that he feels their pain. It certainly goes no further than empathy; in his answers to written questions from Independent readers earlier this week, Brown gave a predictably monosyllabic response to one who asked if it had been a mistake to invade Iraq: No.
At least the new Prime Minister dealt honestly and openly with the question. Unlike his predecessor, however, he seems terrified of any spontaneous engagement with the British public. Throughout his Chancellorship Mr Brown refused countless requests to go on programmes such as Question Time or Any Questions.

Things
- Kate Nash (Live) (Interview)
- When, you try to get away from the lights quite quick. Watch out for lorries that haven’t seen the red light. Gets the heart pumping though right?
- I feel like Claire’s (near) death (experience) on Hollyoaks was ruined by the pacing of the episode. It was building so well as well. (Well yes, I know I should have expected it. Still.) Saved somewhat by the hit and run.
- I’m suprised we haven’t been affected by the flooding. I think the house is officially sold now so; not our problem.
- Parents have sold the house. Moving date - approx 19th July.
- Big Brother - Beggars belief on a number of counts. I just don’t understand. Although, Gerry’s (I had to look that up) really astute commentary at the end, was strange/unexpected.
- I couldn’t care less that we have a new Prime Minister.
- The independent film-maker Jamie Campbell followed David Cameron and Gordon Brown to see how accessible they were. It’s 12 minutes long but makes for quite interesting viewing. Clearly, Dave is going to be more open. Still the lengths that Brown’s people go to to avoid him is kind of depressing. via
- I care less now.
Death or circuits…

I thought I was going to spinning but they was a lack of communication. The instructor said we she wasn’t going to be there, but the gym didn’t. Anyway, we did circuits instead. It was truly horrible, but in hindsight, in a good way.
We did 7 activities for a minute, the way it worked I did all the cardio at the end, which meant I was shattered at the end. So; i’m thinking. I feel a bit sick, it’s easier to crouch down because standing is hard but I got through it. Oh wait, we’re going to do some running now. Yeah, I found that difficult, to be fair I was finding walking hard with the incline. So we did, 2 minutes of running then 2 minutes of star jumps (the star jumps just weren’t happening). We did 3 of each, with the incline going to the maximum the machine allowed for the latter two. The last ‘run’ was horrid. I genuinely couldn’t run.
So; i’m thinking. It’s done now, i tried my hardest. Oh wait, we’re doing more circuits. The run was the hardest. The instructor kept upping it.
That said, it was good! I think the thing is, when you’re on your own you don’t (well i don’t) push yourself. Well you do, but not to the degree someone else will. S’all good. Mostly because it’s pushing different types of fitness. Metafilter post on it here.
