My run this morning.

My run

I think going from running at the gym to running outside is going to take a little getting used to. I think you underestimate how slow your legs are moving when running at the gym. So today was a little better, resisting the urge to stop is so much easier at the gym because the ‘ground’ just keeps on moving.

what’s it going to take?

“If we stare at ourselves in the mirror for long enough the person staring back will inevitably become a stranger.Take pleasure in the small things… but don’t dwell on the trivial. Perhaps if we all stopped analysing ourselves so much we’d get a chance to actually just grow into the person we’re meant to be.”

Dell Customer Service.

with one comment

Mum and dad ordered a Dell. It turned up, without ever having been trackable on the website. Anyway, it has Vista and it was being slow when mum and dad started using it. Things were taking much longer to load then they really should have. So mum rang customer service to get some help. In the end they were able to help by changing some startup processes. That said, them not understanding what you’re saying and you not understanding them is a really big problem. So much so that I would consider going elsewhere on that basis alone, or at least if i was recommending them for someone else. They rang the next day and I ended up hanging up on the person because she clearly wasn’t listening or was understanding what I was trying to explain and I just couldn’t understand her. It was greaaaaaaaat.

Things that didn’t happen a year ago…

Discussing people based solely on their Facebook updates.

“Have you heard from X at all, I haven’t seen them in ages.”

“No; but their Facebook update says they’re happy/sad/working/killing again”

“Really?! I can’t believe that, must be because they’re skinning cats again.”

You get the poiint.

Switched.

So i’ve given up on Safari already and gone back to Firefox. Some reasons

  • Performancing - to blog from inside the browser window.
  • Only having to click the folders in my bookmark toolbar once.
  • Adblock - it’s the flashing more then anything.
  • It’s not as snappy but it seems to crash less on the sites i use.
  • Super drag and go - drag a link to open it.
  • Forcing things to open in tabs - I kept getting new windows without realising it (partly because it was so snappy)

Also, i’ve discovered a load of useful Greasemonkey scripts for Facebook. Ones that strip applications off other people’s walls, delete the icons below people’s names and remove certain apps notifications from my news feed. Just like the good old day ;)

Graffiti

The buggers have a point. Excuse the shadow. I quite like it though.

This week

with one comment

  1. Up early
  2. Gym - at least every other day. I ran two miles today and it was good. It’s about fighting the urge to stop because it seems too much like hard work. I suppose if getting slimmer (vanity > fitness/health) was easy then everyone would be doing it. It’s nice to feel like i’m finally getting somewhere with it. I think there’s a very definite point when you realise that too. When the thing you were doing before and it was hard, just isn’t is comfortable.
  3. NO SNACKING. NO NO NO. WATER AND FRUIT. BREAKFAST WILL BE CONSUMED. BUT NOT THE PRINGLES AND DIP IN THE KITCHEN.
  4. Don’t mention the planning.

So i’ve switched back to Safari (though it’s not working properly as I write this) because it’s feels a bit lighter on it’s feet and Firefox was getting annoying. So i’ve got Creammonkey instead of Greasemonkey and Inquisitor to manage my search engines. It’s whether i go back to Firefox’s functionality. We’ll see.  Also Jenn has a blog now. Which got me thinking of all my old blogs which go back to early 2003 and how before that I was using OpenDiary when I was still at school. Anyhow, I wanted to write more on that so i’ll do that later.

Things I have discovered….

with one comment

1. At this point in time. I have no tolerance for the pub drug alcohol (C2H5OH). A repercussion I didn’t properly consider when I cut down my intake.
2. There was a point on Wednesday morning just before the teacher took over the class for numeracy and my literacy lesson had gone quite well. When I wanted to continue teaching. It was fleeting, subtle even but was the highlight of my week.
