Spotify Mobile – first impressions.
Just an afternoons worth though…
I coughed the £10 premium for Spotify today. Mostly because I wanted to have a go with it on my phone and see what it’s like. As an aside it means I can play at a slightly higher bitrate (I can’t really tell the difference) and that I can get rid of the ads (bonus).
Connecting via wifi and all your Spotify playlists pop up and you can play them, edit them. Search for other music and add that to playlists. You can can choose to download songs and play them offline too, which works really nicely. Playlists seem to sync quickly enough and then you’re free to play them when your reception is rubbish.
I took it with me to walk up to town to buy a chicken, some bread and 4l of Robinsons Apple and Blackcurrent squash. On the way up I played some playlists that hadn’t synced (so that I was just streaming). On the way up, tracks took a little while to load but once they did they played through fine. It’s just as I walked around, reception came and went and so did the tracks. Which just didn’t really work very well. It needs a solid connection to do that and waiting for it to load is just a pain in the derriere really. Will see how that works out.
The offline play, the app itself are really really nice. It’s whether downloading songs I like to playlists to sync to my phone is worth £10 a month…
