Sunday Morning Reasons
Another Sunday morning, another opportunity to get up at a little after 8 and head to Bruntwood park for a British Military Fitness class. Today we had James and were in one big group and there were a fair few of us. We did lots of running under the guise of not being fast enough to do something. We’d run to the tree line (military!) and back and then have to get into two ranks (again!) and if we weren’t fast enough then we got to run again. We did sets of circuits where you’d be in five ranks (5 people at the front, five behind and so on) and each rank would be about 10m apart and would be doing different exercises. Then rank right at the front would run to the trees and back and then swap with with the rank at the back, would sprint (no walking!) and replace the rank in front of them and so on and so forth. Rinse and repeat. Then we did some lovely squats, a bit more running and then repeated the circuit again. Before finishing with a game of stuck in the mud!
The thing about BMF is that, mostly, it is about as hard as you make it. It will get you fitter – my cardio is so much better in the month I’ve been going – because they make you work so gosh-darned hard. Like today for example, during the class there were points where I thought ‘I just want to stop now please because my legs hurt and I can’t do any more’ and James is there either shouting for everyone to keep going. Or if you’re very lucky, he stands behind you and talks you through the exercise, except keeping up with commands is hard hard work. The point is, I wouldn’t have done that on my own and that’s why I keep going back, because I need that ‘motivation’ to work harder. At the time is hard work, there’s no doubt about it unfortunately but that’s what’ll get results! Plus every single person is in the same boat, which greatly increases the social aspect of it!
This week will be interesting, it’s the first week where I’ll be working (yay!) and exercising… We’ll see how that goes. There’s no way I’ll be able to exercise as much as I am now while working but we’ll see.
