British Military Fitness – best exercise ever.
BMF in the cold of Bruntwood Park tonight. Still feeling it in my legs a little, like some hangover from the double I did last Tuesday and the Fitness assessment on Saturday. I got my score back from Saturday too and am firmly in the Green – which I’m quite pleased about. My only worry is keeping my fitness at this level!
Anyway, tonight was tough. Huge bucket loads of press ups, more squats then should be allowed and a big heap of tuck jumps too. Plus, lots of hill sprints. Anyway, at the end he had us sprinting maybe 50m and the second time we did it, I gave it everything. I like sprinting, it was where I first started in athletics and I credit my turn of speed (and lack of stamina) to that. Thing is, when you give everything it just takes it out of you. As a result that second sprint broke me a little bit, so much so that I couldn’t really do the remaining two sprints as I just hadn’t recovered enough. All that sprinting tends to make me feel a little nauseous too. It did mean that the rest of the class was a bit of a wash out as I struggled to find the motivation.
So, obviously I felt fine 20 minutes later and am considering doing the double tomorrow. It’s hard work but that’s what I want. Even if I don’t think it at the time.
Plus there’s a regular crowd now that I get on with and we tend to push each other to keep going and work harder. They talk about the social aspect of British Military Fitness a lot but it makes such a difference to everything. When you can stand dripping wet, covered in mud and gasping for breath and still find time to have a laugh, something’s right (or wrong depending on your point of view.)
