Bouldering
Went bouldering for the first time at Manchester Climbing Centre today. It’s set up in this big old church. Anyway, since I was on my own I just bouldered (fine by me).
I was just talking to Rob about it and he said he prefers climbing but I was thinking about it today and I think I much prefer bouldering. I prefer the fact that after I did a couple of the easy routes in the area above and it just made me happy. I can’t really explain it better then that. While I will be concede that you don’t get the fear like you do when climbing – I like being able to concentrate on a single/sequence of moves. Concentrating more on climbing as gracefully as possible, I know that there getting to the top is the important thing but there are different ways to do it. It’s that watching people doing harder routes, just have a certain grace to them. A control, a focus on their form. I stayed for a little while and though I didn’t completely tire myself out, it felt good to be doing it again.
Plus the centre’s bouldering room is really nice, not massive but a really good range of difficulties. Enough to get a few projects going…

One response to Bouldering
Bouldering is climbing in it’s purest form, just you and the problem. No messing around with ropes, or harnesses or gear. Bouldering over climbing every time for me.
