Be yourself?

That stuck in my head. I mean it is true isn’t it? You should be yourself? I mean, especially when I’m thinking about online dating too. Where, people aren’t generally themselves? Are they?
I’ve now got this episode of Scrubs in my head, where Elliott and Carla are talking – Elliott has started seeing someone and she’s finding it hard to contain the ‘crazy’. What she’s really like and Carla is saying that she doesn’t want to herself too soon or it’ll scare him away.
Is the reality that it’s somewhere in between? I mean I know there’s a simple line that will explain these thoughts away. It’s just you want someone to like you for you don’t you? Those idiosyncrasies that make you you.
It’s just I have had this list of things I like, that I’ve had for years now. This one:
Things I like include: Guinness, postcards, dark chocolate, swings, small or empty cinemas (the idea that you get a better experience from a full cinema is rubbish) and films that make me feel alive (I need it to be something real, fluffy perfect romances aren’t for me). Staring out of the windows of moving vehicles, honesty, Bill Hicks, portrait photographs and dancing to drum and bass. Soft accents, bouldering, vanilla tea and being indoors when it rains. Late nights, early mornings and listening to single songs incessantly.
And I keep reading it and keep not wanting to change it, it seems right but also not at the same time.
So, off the top of my head. Current things I like…
Green tea, scrambled eggs, burgers with cheese slices, the 2l bottle of Pepsi I keep down the side of the work surface and swig from, exercising with friends until I feel sick or so out of breath I can’t stand (or both), the adrenalin rush of completing a bouldering route, singing in the car, doing an ‘aeroplane’ when running, walking with headphones in and songs that make me smile, high fives, working with children – I love that my job occasionally involves playing I spy or means I get to do the conga in the sunshine, the downtime when washing up, tumblrs of words and pictures and pictures with words, imgfave, weheartit, mnmlist.com and Simplicity by Sunny, chess.
