There are benefits to being a supply teacher, you have free time aplenty, the money is enough and you still get to spend days working with children. There are times when I’ve been doing it, and spending 5 days working in 5 different schools that I like leaving everything at the door, going home and not having to worry about anything other then making sure I’ve got my shirt ironed.
And yet, I spend lots of time when I am thinking that I’d like all that additional ‘stuff’ that comes with being in the same place regularly.
In any case I’m writing this because I said yes at working at the same place from 5 weeks ago until Xmas, mostly because of all the things I missed. The first few weeks were a bit all over the place for a number of reasons but I feel like now, I’m really settling into it. There has also been talk about making the position more permanent – until the end of the year at least in the first instance. I really like that idea. In any case I keep forgetting that I’m still, technically, a supply teacher. I get on really well with the two teachers that I work with daily and the rest of the staff in KS1 have all been really supportive.
I’ve just decided it’s a place, I would quite happily like to work. We will see, was observed by the head of KS1 last week – which went really well and will possibly be observed by the head this coming week.
