Today I did the Prestwich Challenge with a few friends from BMF. I hadn’t really thought too much about it, spent a lot of time thinking (and talking – I won’t shut up) about Crossfit this last week and woke to a few aches in the shoulders and hips this morning.

Long story short it was a team event and we carried two tyres for the first mile and then shared the small tyre for the rest of the course which was a further 7 or miles. Those 7 miles included, in no particular order

  • Walking/running/stumbling through several streams – that varied from shallow to deep and too in varying degrees of muddiness from a little bit to knee deep (which was fun but not when the water then went to your waist)
  • Some steep, muddy hills – travelling both up and down, frequently on one’s backside.
  • Crawling through some tunnels, one of which was pitch black for just far enough, I manned up though (definitely easier then the one in Wales, which was just more claustrophobic by far)
  • Paddling a boat around a pond, in a very unstable boat.
  • Frequent spots of running around with wet socks.
  • Pulling yourself across a couple of deep lakes – the latter including some going under floating logs.
  • A final climb up over a trailer and some haybales – getting down was tricky and Sam and I both fell on our behinds.
It was a whole lot of fun really. I wouldn’t have wanted to do it individually though and much preferred the do it for enjoyment rather then as a race. It was good to get wet and muddy and a bit smelly and I came through it relatively uninjured. It was well-marshalled I thought, they were pretty much everywhere and the good bag included a Gregg’s sausage roll and a gingerbread man. So it’s all good.
