Today was called the “Crossfit Bold Test.”

Start rowing.
After 1 min.
Step off rower.
Do 1 burpee.
Get back on rower.
After 1 min.
Step off rower.
Do 2 burpees.
Get back on rower.
Repeating until either: a) You row 2000m or b) You run of time to row because of burpees.

There was a person too many to do the workout, so instead of letting of them do it alone, I stood and watched the first group go through the WOD. Clearly a mistake. I watched them go out rowing hard and then as the burpees crept up on them, they spent less time rowing and more time hitting the ground and standing back up, willing them to get one more done before the burpees caught up with them.

So then I sat on the rower and got ready to go. Clearly there was no backing out.

Managed the first 1000m in 5 minutes (I think) (and 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 burpees) and then it went downhill from there. The legs started going, the burpees got tougher and tougher. Ed stood and counted for me for which I was most grateful and people stood and ‘encouraged’ me to get down and get one more burpee down, to not pause and just keep going. Without them there, I never would have got that far. Then towards the end I had maybe 10 seconds on the rower before I had to jump off and start another round of burpees.

Got to 12 burpees (total at that point: 78, distance: 1905m and just flat out ran out of time. The burpees took me 1 minute and to carry one would have involved getting through 13 burpees before I could get on the rower again.

It wasn’t happening.

So I rolled off the rower and spent 10minutes lying down as recovery.

Then I picked myself up and contemplated the next time I’d do it. The next time when I would complete the 2000m and finish the WOD.
