The drive’s enormous cache–32MB of solid-state RAM–virtually eliminates skipping; shaking the iPod vigorously and even banging it against things didn’t interrupt smooth play.

The iPod is 10 years old today. This snippet from the original article made me smile. I can still remember having a portable CD player with ‘ESP’, electronic shock protection to stop it skipping – though it only managed to do it if you didn’t shake it too much. That it was actually an issue back then, whereas now the issue isn’t an issue at all.
